Coleman Wong Leads the Guangzhou Field
Coleman Wong sits at the top of the Guangzhou entry list and gives the tournament a recognizable Asian headliner.
The 22-year-old has continued to establish himself around the Top 100 and should be one of the leading contenders on a surface that suits his aggressive game.
With Wong holding the highest ranking in the field, Guangzhou gives him another opportunity to collect valuable Challenger points and strengthen his position on the ATP Tour.
Yibing Wu, Yunchaokete Bu Give China Two Contenders
Chinese tennis fans will have two serious players to follow in Yibing Wu and Yunchaokete Bu.
Wu remains one of the most dangerous players in this field when healthy. His first-strike tennis and ability to take the ball early make him particularly dangerous on hard courts.
Bu poses another legitimate threat to China and ranks No. 124 in Guangzhou.
With both players competing at home, either could become a major factor during the week.
Experienced Hard-Court Players Add Depth
Aleksandar Vukic and Christopher O’Connell bring plenty of ATP-level experience to Guangzhou.
Vukic enters ranked No. 95, just one spot behind Wong, while O’Connell sits at No. 105.
Lloyd Harris is another player capable of outperforming his ranking. The South African’s serve and aggressive baseline game have traditionally made him dangerous on quicker hard courts.
Former Top 20 players Nikoloz Basilashvili and Bernard Tomic add even more experience to a field that runs considerably deeper than the rankings alone suggest.
